Wedding Mittens

adult, bottom-up, female, in-the-round, one piece, seamless, lace, written pattern,  slipped stitch

A friend of mine asked me to knit for her a pair of white silky lace wedding mitts. She is a small lady with small hands and I couldn't find anything suitable among the available patterns. So I designed the mittens by myself and here is the pattern:  

Finished Measurements
15 cm (circumference) x 17cm         

SIZES XS/S
YARN:
Any lace yarn of your choice. I used Zitron's Traumseide [100% mulberry silk] 100g = 800m
YARDAGE:
0,2 skein [20 g] of lace yarn of your choice
GAUAGE:
42 stitches / 48 rows with 1.75mm needles = 10 cm x 10 cm /4“ x 4” in slipped stitch lace pattern after blocking.
NEEDLES:
circular 1.75 mm sized needle, double pointed 1.75 mm sized needles
Other notions:
1 stitch marker,  blocking pins

ABBREVIATIONS

BO - bind off
k: knit
k2tog: knit 2 stitches together
k3tog: knit 3 stitches together
ktbl – knit through the back loop
m: marker
m1: (make one) increase one stitch by knitting into the back of the stitch from the row below
p: purl
p2tog: purl 2 stitches together
pm: place marker
rnd/s: round/s
sl/d: slip/ped
ssp: slip 2 sts as to k them and then purl both sts
st/s: stitch/es
yo/s: yarn over/es


INSTRUCTIONS
Using 1,75 mm needle, provisionally CO 50 sts. Pm and join to work in the rnd. (be careful not to twist your sts)
Rnds 1-5: k all sts
Rnd 6:  [k2tog, yo] 25 times
Rnds 7-11: k all sts
Rnd 12: Work live sts together with provisionally CO sts by knitting two together (1 live st together with 1 provisionally CO st). Continue with this method throughout the entire rnd.
Rnds 13-15: k all sts.

Rnd 16:[ p2tog, yo, p3] 10 times
Rnd 17: [p1, sl previous yo purlwise and yo above sld loop at the same time, p3] 10 times
Rnd 18: [p1, sl previous 2 yos purlwise and yo above sld loop at the same time, p3] 10 times
Rnd 19: [p1, k3tog (yos), p3] 10 times
Rnd 20: [p2, p2tog, yo, p1] 10 times
Rnd 21: [p3, sl previous yo purlwise and yo above sld loop at the same time, p1] 10 times
Rnd 22: [p3, sl previous 2 yos purlwise and yo above sld loop at the same time, p1] 10 times
Rnd 23: [p3, k3tog (yos), p1] 10 times

Rnds 24-31: repeat rnds 16-23  1 more time

Rnd 32: [p5 m1] 10 times [10 sts increased, we have now 60 sts]

slipped stitch lace pattern II
Rnd 33: [p1, p2tog, yo] 20 times
Rnd 34 [p2, sl previous yo purlwise and yo above sld loop at the same time] 20 times
Rnd 35: [p2, sl previous 2 yos purlwise and yo above sld loop at the same time] 20 times
Rnd 36: [p2, k3tog (yos)] 20 times
Rnd 37: [p1, yo, ssp ]20 times
Rnd 38: [p1 sl previous yo purlwise and yo above sld loop at the same time, p1] 20 times
Rnd 35: [p1, sl previous 2 yos purlwise and yo above sld loop at the same time, p1] 20 times
Rnd 36: [p1, k3tog (yos), p1] 20 times
INSTRUCTIONS
Repeat rnds 33-36  5 more times

Separating of thumb and hand sts

place 15 [thumb] sts onto a piece of waste yarn and keep working the hand part:

Hand
On the left needle CO 6 sts and rejoin in the round, keeping the end of round marker in place. [51  sts]

Continue in slipped stitch lace pattern II:

Rnd 1: [p1, p2tog, yo] 18 times
Rnd 2 [p2, sl previous yo purlwise and yo above sld loop at the same time] 18 times
Rnd 3: [p2, sl previous 2 yos purlwise and yo above sld loop at the same time] 18 times
Rnd 4: [p2, k3tog (yos)] 18 times
Rnd 5: [p1, yo, ssp ] 18 times
Rnd 6: [p1 sl previous yo purlwise and yo above sld loop at the same time, p1] 18 times
Rnd 7: [p1, sl previous 2 yos purlwise and yo above sld loop at the same time, p1] 18 times
Rnd 8: [p1, k3tog (yos), p1] 18 times
Rnd 9-12: repeat rnds 1-4 of slipped stitch lace pattern II once more
Rnd 13: p2tog, p all sts [1 st decreased]

Rnds 14-25 continue with slipped stitch lace pattern I:
Rnd 14:[ p2tog, yo, p3] 10 times
Rnd 15: [p1, sl previous yo purlwise and yo above sld loop at the same time, p3] 10 times
Rnd 16: [p1, sl previous 2 yos purlwise and yo above sld loop at the same time, p3] 10 times
Rnd 17 [p1, k3tog (yos), p3] 10 times
Rnd 18 [p2, p2tog, yo, p1] 10 times
Rnd 19 [p3, sl previous yo purlwise and yo above sld loop at the same time, p1] 10 times
Rnd 20: [p3, sl previous 2 yos purlwise and yo above sld loop at the same time, p1] 10 times
Rnd 21 [p3, k3tog (yos), p1] 10 times
Rnd 22-25 repeat rnds 14-17 once more
Rnds 26-30 [1 ktbl, p1] 25 times

Thumb
Place 15 held thumb stitches onto 3 double pointed or circular needles in size 1.75 mm.
Pick up and purl 6 sts in the gap where the thumb joins the palm of the hand. [21sts]
Place a marker and join to work into the round.
Rnds 1-10: p all sts
Bind off all sts. 

Finishing
Fasten the yarn off and weave in loose ends, wash the mittens gently in lukewarm water and dry it flat. Leave it lying flat until it is completely dry.
